A KINDLE OF KITTENS

In one of those well-preserved English villages where a costumed Town Crier coexists with a poet in jeans, a stray, garbage-happy cat succumbs to ""a soft crooning miaoul"" (""I am He-Cat""), discovers she's going to have kittens (""Here's a nice kindle!""), and then has to find suitable homes for them--which is accomplished by matching each to one of the townsfolk. Sweet little Honey, for instance, goes to the Poet--who, though poor, is too popular to starve. It's all quite wordy and just a little too precious and quaint--notwithstanding the strongly defined, rather interesting fur-color pictures.
