A readable biography of Francis Scott Key, colorful, making the most of a not too dramatic personality. Here in interesting detail is the famous story of the night he spent in British hands during the attack on Fort McHenry, and the morning that revealed that ""the flag was still there"" -- and writing of the words of our national anthem. He lived most of his life between our Revolutionary and Civil wars, and took active part in those momentous years. As a brilliant lawyer, he had many important cases, and, under Jackson, served as District Attorney for the District of Columbia. Holland is a sound scholar and tells a good story.
