TEEN-AGE HISTORICAL STORIES

The sixth in a series of stories built around one idea or another (sport-mystery-westerns and so on), these are exceptional, as might be expected from an author who has a good feeling for dramatic incident and a gift for conveying a period by significant details that highlight. He has unearthed interesting bits of history in unlikely documents and letters, and built lively stories about unsung heroes. Subjects range from early colonial history through Franklin, the period of the Napoleonic Wars (as felt in the United States) and Lincoln; the moods vary from humor to tragedy. The book rates a place not only on the boys' action story shelf, but in school libraries for salutary introduction to history.
