A new twist on a proven formula: when Santa's reindeer (he has just two) take the year off without notice, his sleigh is pulled by a unique collection of animals, led by a dragon to light the way and including a lion, a donkey, an elephant, a camel, and a mouse to help Santa read the map. They have some amusing difficulties along the way and come home to find that the contrite reindeer have fixed a fine dinner. Watts's illustrations include amusing details and are nicely imbued with warm Christmas spirit. Better than average of its kind.
