The Great Howk Ork, a highschool dance band, and the dictates of Howkism, the members' code of ""behavior"", ruled Ronnie Martin's days until he saw Wanda Gothic float into a classroom. Ronnie's awkward attempts to win the fair, aloof maiden and their consequent ""courtship"" amounts to solid comedy--which is rare in the written teen age romance. The teenagers laugh at themselves in the midst of seriousness; the adults laugh too, but are also sympathetic at the right times. The author's treatment of his subjects is a realistic relief from the blown-up, inappropriately serious approach which is prevalent. Hopefully the nondescript book jacket will not cause this to be bypassed--good writing and healthy entertainment for readers who too often subsist on cloud fluff and tears in print.
