Another first rate story of the K9 operation, this time in a story of a dog that belonged to the crippled youngster who was working at the Bay Lane kennels when scarcely more than a lad, and became the head trainer. Count had been his dog since he saved him as a puppy from death, and when the war came Larry gave Count special training and then let him be sent away to serve his country. There is more detailed data on the processes of K9 training than in the other books, and more emphasis on the reactions of the different dogs. One gets a sense of the variety of uses to which dogs are being put -- and the future opened up by these processes. Anyone interested in dogs or in the K9 work will find it fascinating. And for others, the adventures under actual battle conditions provide enough plot interest to carry them along.
