THE GULF STREAM

A distinctive volume outstanding for the illustrations by Helene Carter which are rampant with lush beauty. Her fine awareness of flora and fauna added to the talent for making the smallest drawings seem spacious, deep and full of movement, combine to give real feeling to the natural subjects. The text is lively and sparkles with historical bright spots. The physiography is handled with a great deal of illumination and a minimum of confusion. It is sometimes choppy but on the whole it is an exciting book. Good library and school material and a lovely gift book. JLG and winner of the first prize in the Children's Spring Book Festival (Herald-Tribune).
