TREE TRAILS AND HOBBIES

An excellent out of doors hobby book, this round-up of trees of all kinds, their family and individual characteristics and the types of search, observation and collecting that they offer. The conifers and broadleaf varieties are described regionally and with keys for identification, then trees with special attractions for the hobbyist follow- those with flowers, cones, fruits, seeds, distinctive leaves, buds, wood growth, curious forms. Next are portraits of several individual trees, the tulip tree, the bald cypress, the pinon, the sycamore, these are followed by sections on names, habits, backgrounds, of trees, trees in books, immigrant trees, rare and unusual specimens, special tree expeditions. There is a glossary, bibliography and there are photographs, and the text shares the personal pleasure the author has found in this hobby of hers and in the explorations into which it has led her.
