THOMAS ALVA EDISON, INVENTOR

Sympathetic, directly written and perhaps less eulogistic than Enid Lamonte Meadowcroft's The Story of Thomas Alva Edison in Grosset and Dunlap's new Signature Book series- here is a nice biography of the inventor. His years in the book are from the age of two to thirty-two- from his babyhood fascination with a spinning coin to the height of his great successes. Much of the material is fresh, on-the-scene narration and based on Edison's own accounts. His early interest in why things happen, the extremely active boyhood spent on a multitude of vigorous projects, hard times in early manhood- come alive as he is clearly pictured in his times. Albert Orbaun's clean cut drawings are perfect for a worthwhile book.
