FAVORITE TREES OF DESERT, MOUNTAIN, AND PLAIN

This is a good additional title on trees. It is not, nor was it intended a complete survey of the trees indigenous to various regions throughout the country. Rather, as the title implies, these are the favorites for a variety of reasons. For instance, there is the story of the Connecticut Charter Oak; the oshua tree of the southwestern desert area is included for its weirdity; the agnolia tree of the south for its outstanding beauty; and so forth and so on in a very readable rendition of the odd facts about the odder trees. It is in no sense a rambling account. Each tree mentioned is discussed from the standpoint of the necessary conditions for growth, its general characteristics for identification, and any legends or bearing on history.
