UNDER ALL SILENCES: Shades of Love

Love poems, erotic and spiritual, are presented here in a rather sophisticated collection that should be accessible to junior-high and older readers. The anthology includes a wide variety of poets, from ancient Egypt and early China as well as contemporary writers such as Adrienne Rich and Audre Lord. Standards like Yeats, e.e. cummings, and Emily Dickinson are also represented. There are poems extolling young love, married love, and loves lost or remembered, making a good collection of love poems that celebrate the many stages and aspects of love, including mature devotion and the deep emotions aroused by physical love. Fine for more mature readers.
