KIRKUS REVIEW

Not since Irwin Shapiro gave us the folk character of Stormalong, the Paul unyan of the sailing ships, in his How Old Stormalong Captured Mocha Dick have we ad as zestful a recounting of these entertaining adventures. And that's a good ten ears ago. One legend here- one there -- have appeared in various collections; even hapiro used only part of the story. But here they are, woven into a rollicking whole, supplying straight--faced authority for the sources of many modern wonders, even to the hite Cliffs of Dover and refrigeration, the Panama Canal and the wonders of the days of canvas. Humor adventure tall tale telling.
