SPLASH AND FLOW

Despite all the spurts and splashes, this is a generally tepid little photo-essay on the uses and delights of water. Howell and Strong mix bits of information (chiefly, how water gets from a reservoir to city hydrants), photos of icicles, raindrops and children splashing, and uninspired appreciations such as ""Snowflakes swoop and swirl and tickle your face, before they settle down and make a soft white blanket over the ground."" It's an agreeable enough reminder that water is wet, but neither lyrical enough nor informative enough to make any strong impression.
