THE UPS AND DOWNS OF EMILY by Ruth Huntington Sessions

THE UPS AND DOWNS OF EMILY

By

Publisher: Dodd, Mead

What Mrs. Wilder has done for the pioneer child in America, Mrs. Sessions has done for the town and village child, in recapturing her own childhood memories and putting them into story form. Emily is a very real personality, with understandable quirks and idiosyncrasies. And one actually feels her growing up, in the process of this story of those awkward years between 9 and 13. The setting -- shifting from New England to upper New York State, recreates the period 75 years ago very convincingly. The Peter Larkin pictures strike too modern a note in their very paucity of detail.
