Miss Peters' intensive career in horticulture in newspapers and magazines, her fir book Bulb Magic in Your Garden (1954) and her knowledge of the questions city garden makers will want to have answered, all contribute to a useful guide for the veriet beginner and a refresher for those who are thinking of changing or improving their circumscribed areas. The first consideration is basic planning -- what you want, what you have to work with and how to go about it; tools and equipment and their storage; how to cultivate, water and protect your plantings (and how to plant); -- are the working material that is amplified by lists of shrubs, trees, annuals, perennials, ground covers, etc., etc., for sun or shade -- AND for various parts of the country. She includes, above and beyond back yards, front dooryard projects, roof gar-gens, window boxes and mobile gardens of boxed, tubbed, potted and hanging plants and arrangements, and goes on from there to indoor and greenhouse possibilities. Certainly a study and work book for gardening newcomers in metropolitan districts and an excellent reference for old hands with problems.
