A sunshiny tale about surf, sea shells and horses — land (not real of course) and sea varieties. Michael didn't want to leave Wisconsin for the horrid ocean with its strange noises and smells. But once on the Florida island, Michael began to make friends. There was Granny, the Lighthouse Keeper, the Mailboat Captain, and then the little red horse which stood on the plane. From his friends Michael begins to learn about the life in the ocean — shells and animals and plants. Soon Michael cathces catches a lovely golden sea horse, collects shells and wins a prize in a marine exhibit. Also Michael knows a wonderful secret about the Little Red Horse and the golden sea horse. Full of the wonder of the sea, this is just the book for children who live near the shore, especially in the Florida region as many of the shells found there are mentioned and described.
