KIRKUS REVIEW

Uncle Allen's gift of a Geiger counter helped orphaned Larry O'Neil, 15, to uncover the cause of the mysterious activity on a small island in the Bay of Fundy in Canada. A wise and seasoned salt, Old Pete, and a Mountie help Pete feel he has a substitute family, while he helps them catch illicit mine operations for cobalt and pitchblende. A formula plot, consisting of mystery, chase and a teen aged hero-sleuth, this is a successful attempt. It should be; the recipe has been tested often enough.
