THUNDERBOATS HO!

Good spinner of yarns, is Montgomery, and this adds PT boat adventure to the aerial and marine adventure of his earlier books. He taps factual background for some of the amazing exploits of his small task force, who first helped hold the beachhead on Guadalcanal, and stopped the Tokyo Express, and then set out for further fields of conquest, a suicide raid on a big carrier and nests of Jap bases screening Truk. Plenty action -- plenty luck -- Commando tactics on land -- and eventual escape against odds makes this fast-paced Pacific war adventure, well told. The physical appearance of the book sets the age level lower than necessitated by the content.
