Continuing the adventures of Charlie Carter, his friend Ellen and Golden Boy, the stallion of the Carter ranch, these chapters describe another ideal western summer. The mystery this time comes in the form of Duncan, a new neighbor who has hired questionable Cass Laverty as his range boss. As Cass broadcasts his threats about the damage Golden Boy is doing to the Duncan property, there are his own backhanded tactics that create more than one problem for the Carters. Ellen brings a friend with her too, Sara Jane, whose broken family poses some emotional problems to be solved before reaching a happy outcome.
