A splendid book, which accomplishes what others have failed to do in presenting the plant kingdom to the layman. The author has a sensitive awareness of nature, a deep appreciation of its beauties; but he writes without sentimentality, with color and originality and a minimum of technical terms. He talks of leaf buds of trees, how they are formed, how they vary; he talks of trees in winter, of spring and the time table of nature, of the mechanisms that insure pollination. The book does not presuppose knowledge -- it does presuppose interest. Not a book for one-sitting consumption, but to read at leisure, to enjoy again and again. To be illustrated with photographs in color and black and white. For the market of Grass Root Jungles, Bird Flight, etc.
