RE-EDUCATING THE DELINQUENT

From his experience as director of a school for ""delinquent girls"", and later a school for boys, this text is based on direct experience and pleads for a corrective education in which love, trust, and primarily justice are applied. Psychiatry is also essential; so is guidance in the home situation along with the establishment of new attitudes. Within the school itself, the phases of a rehabilitative program are assessed; the system of rewards and deprivations; the cottage system- whose success is dependent on the type of cottage parents secured; the planning of a recreational program, of art work (maladjusted children have an abudance of talent), of social and work groups which will favor moral and emotional realignment.... Casework amplifies much of this, and lends its human interest, but the market is strictly professional.
