THE TIDE

A rudimentary depiction of what that fails to clearly explain why -- this because the initial example of gravity illustrates a downward pull and the pull of a magnet (""not the same as gravity"") demonstrates the ocean's rise; the drawing of the moving tidal bulge does not conceptualize it; and the bulge at the side of the earth away from the moon is confounding as the result simply of a ""weaker pull of gravity."" Even less comprehensible is the more complex phenomenon of seasonal tides and their relationship to the visible shape of the moon. Too truncated for the topic, too much for the young audience.
