COPYCAT DRAWING BOOK

A sun with rays, a goldfish in a bowl, a sitting cat, faces with different expressions and hair treatment (these filled in with smudgy paint jobs that readers aren't likely to duplicate), a house and a row of houses, a hen and then an egg, a truck, a plane. . . . These are among the kindergarten-style pictures Kilroy presents as models in this cheerful but uninspiring drawing book. Instead of basing her figures on simple shapes, as does Emberley (above), Kilroy simply shows a few stages of her own drawing process and asks readers to copy them in order--which doesn't yield as uniform results as Emberley's, even though her stock figures are deadly simple to look at. In any case, the standardized products don't justify this early start in learning to draw the wrong way.
