SINK THE BASKET

Adult, realistic though somewhat complicated treatment of some knotty problems in the life of a volunteer girls' basketball instructor at a New York community center. Athletic Kay, in her last year at a Westchester County girls' school, doesn't want to take the orthodox step to four years of college. A possible future opens graddually when she meets Steve, Thayer Center's young director, who asks if she'd like to teach the sport she loves, and she soon finds herself involved with a bunch of Tenth Ave. twelve year olds who prove a handful. The crux lies in Kay's task of straightening out conceited Erva who is the team's support- a task complicated by her own temper and by the misjudged unfriendliness of Steve who wants Kay to learn for herself. Adding to the plot is a genuine though baffling interest shown by Erva's assemblyman uncle who promises the girls a new gym if they win a certain game. But taken on faith, it's an appealing tale.
