Since contemporary education does not sanction unsupervised parental fingers in the reading pie, these introductory reading books -- which are in effect reading texts, teachers' manuals and children's workbooks -- all in one, have no legitimate place outside the classroom. While parents can do much to make reading a desirable goal, the techniques and skills of teaching are usually better left in the hands of professional educators. As a classroom tool these may have their place -but for home use, they would probably compound confusion.
