KIRKUS REVIEW

Like Achilles, he was capable of great courage and explosive anger. Like Odysseus, he traveled the world in search of his home. Like Hector, he knew victory and defeat in his lifetime. Like Paris, who abducted his Helen, Schliemann carried off his beautiful young wife to the windy plain of Troy:"" a representative sample of the overblown style, with its overstatement of circumstances, its overdramatization of personality, its oversimplification of character. A negligible addition to an overcrowded area.
