CHENNAULT OF THE FLYING TIGERS

Chennault is already a hero, to young and old alike, and this biography is a good introduction for boys (and air-minded, adventure-loving girls), who will later want to go on and read the adult biography. The selection of facts from his mischievous, adventurous boyhood, the broader sweep of the years when his career came close to going on the rocks, for some of the same reasons that Billy Mitchell was sacrificed, and the subsequent glorious comeback in the service of his beloved China -- all woven into a thoroughly readable and interesting portrait of the man and the life he chose. One could wish for more intimate feel of Chennault as a human being, but all in all, the biographer has done an excellent job.
