KIRKUS REVIEW

The Chandler school rather ineptly in a mystery which supplies a comfortably grotesque evening. The tough detective who tells the story responds to affection and decency; a good girl pretends to be hard-boiled in the bewilderments of her environment; the honest cop's hands are tied, and the bad cop wants conviction for the detective; the sophisticated woman downs her whiskey straight and carries a gun in her purse. Ingredients all accounted for; only the plot is lagging.
