The Alsos Mission, composed of a group of top nuclear scientists went to Europe to determine German progress in creating the atom bomb. This is the story of their progress with our first troops- their visits to cities of scientific importance, discussion of captured records of laboratory work, conversations with top scientists. It was a surprise to find Germany not only several years behind us but on the wrong track -- and with only one cyclotron in the whole of Germany. Thoroughly interesting reading, with touches of humor. Of general interest -- not for scientists only.
