This is a thoroughly revised edition of a book published in 1937 and well established in its field. The revision seemed necessary, not because Professor Inman had reversed his judgments but because revisiting Latin America confirmed his earlier verdicts with new evidence, and new developments. Thirty years of intimate knowledge of his subject gives him the right to challenge others to ""think continentally"". He feels, in reappraising the situation, even more confidence in there being a basis for continental unity; he shows how America, North and South, is committed to the American System, the American Spirit.
