HOW TO GROW FOOD FOR YOUR FAMILY

By

Publisher: Barnes

If you have a sceptical client who wonders if it can be done, Mr. Ogden is the perfect answer. He keeps careful records of his garden, says he feeds his family of eight, a camp of twenty-two, sells a good deal, puts up or stores winter supplies, all from his own garden for an outlay of $60.61. Besides he took in $69.80 leaving a cash credit of $9.19. This is the story of a business man who retired and actually tried out his theories in Vermont. This means a short growing season, sometimes frost throughout the year. The vegetables and varieties are therefore of a hardy nature, but it gives a good start as less hardy plants may always be added if your climate warrants it. Mr. Ogden tells why and how to prepare the soil, plant, care for and harvest the crop, put it up for the winter. Especially good are the descriptions of tools and procedure, trenching, spading, etc.
