YOU'LL BE SORRY by Samuel Rogers

Thinly spun but intricately woven story of abnormality ending in murder, as generous spirited Kate ignores an anonymous warning and goes to visit a former young school friend, June, for whom she is sorry. She stumbles into a network of dipsomania, sex irregularities, jealous is the innocent discovery of a clue to murder; plays a part in appeasing kidnappers; stumbles on the body, the murderer and yet another murder; and is subjected to an attack on her person which brings madness to a head. No real unravelling of the mystery here -- simply a combination of fortuitous circumstances. The setting is vaguely midwest -- the period relatively modern.
