THE THINKING BOOK by Sandol Stoddard Warburg

This is one of the puzzlers when it comes to placing it. Certainly it will have to be used with a child by an understanding adult, for the pictures do not convey the content on their own. Furthermore, much of the fascination of the text lies in its sound values- familiar words expanded and echoed with made-up words. The assumption that the child the parent is directing is able to dress himself -- is apt to dilly dally and dream -- and is familiar with concepts beyond the limitations of home would suggest that it best fits the read aloud level- say the four to sixes.
