LITTLE BEAR'S PINTO PONY

By

Publisher: Whitman

Another of this author's typical ""little boy"" stories, this time with a dash of Indians and horses. A little Indian boy runs away from a Reservation in Kansas driven out by the cruelty of the Indian deputy. He takes refuge on a farm, where he is hidden by the farmer's son. The tow boys exchange friendly lessons in cowboy roping and Indian riding. Despite all these makings for a thriller, nothing much happens and the story falls short of being exciting. Third graders will be attracted by its subject and its pictures and by its easy-to-read type and format. They will read it but feel a bit let down.
