HOW TO RAISE GOLDFISH AND GUPPIES

Like the entries on rodents and puppies, this is subtitled ""A Child's Book of Pet Care,"" comes with an introduction for parents, and seems to be aimed at five-to-eight-year-olds. All are illustrated with color photos that tend to emphasize ""appeal,"" and all approach their readers with a touch of indulgence. This one, recommending by name (only) some of the hardiest and easiest to keep goldfish and guppies, covers much the same ground as does Cooper, above, with similar advice on setting up and maintaining a tank, but emphasizes presumed childish concerns (do fish get lonely?) rather than anatomical specifics.
