The narrative rather than deductive style in crime fiction, this vindicates young, helpless and hopeless resigned Carlotta Ives who had confessed to the murder of her Aunt Sophie. Dr. Mark Sargent, psychiatrist assigned to the case of Carlotta, finds his emotions as well as his interest involved, retraces her Dickensian childhood with Aunt Sophie, is sure of her innocence and substantiates the evidence for the police. Romantic- and by all means readable.
