A directory of organizations where high-school students can find volunteer projects. An introductory chapter provides some reasons for volunteering, and a concluding chapter provides ideas for counselors or teachers on directing teens into volunteer work. The list of organizations (occupying all but 25 pages of the book) was derived from a questionnaire to national offices of the organizations, whose addresses are given; teens would be going to local groups, whose ability to direct volunteers may vary. The list is divided by a subject, e.g., animals, civil rights, illiteracy, with a broad range that includes the National AIDS Network, the NRA, the Youth Pro-Life Coalition, and the Gay & Lesbian Task Force. A good first step toward the laudable goal of encouraging teen-agers to make positive contributions to their communities.
