MAMA MADE MINKS by Sara Sandberg

MAMA MADE MINKS

By

Publisher: Doubleday

""F. M. Sandberg, Reliable Furrier"" was both the author's parents and her childhood. In New York's Jewish Harlem in the years after World War I, her Mama made the minks, the jokes, and the good will for the ladies of the Jewish community. Forty-seven years a businesswoman, Mama was (of course) quite a character, whose influence spread gently beyond her husband and four children to the resorts across the river and in the Cataskills--wherever her coats went. Here are her pleasantly Jewish anecdotes and her daughter's ""fondest"" memories, not particularly striking or unique, but warm-hearted and generous enough in humor to make innocuous reading for resettled inhabitants of Mama Sandburg's old fur district. Strictly of regional interest.
