CALL BACK YESTERDAY

Barrister Antony Maitland's impossible cause this time is Harriet Carr, a pallid little wretch who believes herself to be the wife of Peter Wallace--an accountant married for six years to Amy Taylor. Harriet, charged with badgering Peter, has been put in the care of her devoted friend Margery Addington and a court-approved, ""highly respected"" psychiatrist: Dr. Stephen Chandler, a believer in hypnosis and reincarnation. So Harriet is soon making hypnotic forays into her past lives, which bring her to the point of killing her imaginary-rival Amy--all part of a plot by one of Amy's money-motivated relatives. Stick-figure characters, absurdly contrived plotting, wordy and slow: the erratic, prolific Woods at her near-unreadable worst.
