KIRKUS REVIEW

A change of tone this time after her surcharged Bildungsroman about Vienna, sharper and by no means as sweet in a short novel about an Australian girl eponymously called Sidney, a canny, scruffy, amoral little gamin who moves into the lives of two higher-ups of a firm in Brussels. She exerts a certain carnal twang which is as hard to resist as her dirty fingernails are to overlook, and while Bob Donovan thinks he has gotten over a couple of one night infidelities with her, not so his superior, the Chief, who is emotionally unmanageable and also objectionable on liquor and drugs. Sidney, somewhere between a sex kitten and an alley cat, obviously has more than seven lives ahead before she's through with both of them. There are no survivor benefits but it will catch your interest and repay your curiosity.
