SO YOU WANT TO BE A LIBRARIAN

While this is one of a series that has found its place on the vocational and career books reference shelves at both adult and young adult level, we are giving it more than an announcement spot because most of the books in this area have been unsatisfactory. This-while not over-glorifying librarianship as a profession- comes down to fundamentals, using enough of the personal touch to give the facts color. The roads open are explored, the kind of undergraduated and graduate training required, the variety of areas and jobs discussed. There is something of the history and the men behind the library movement; something of the qualifications -- and the rewards; something of the place of the non-professional; in brief, virtually every phase of librarianship is touched upon- and the stereotype gives place to the actuality in final analysis.
