VOLCANOES NEW AND OLD

In photograph and prose, the story of volcanic phenomena which communicates the fascination of the unknown and the violence they compel. Briefly, scientific background -- though still only partially understood causes of volcanic activity -- the volcanic materials -- and the varieties and distribution of volcanoes and craters. The main part of the book consists of descriptions of volcanoes in all parts of the world, their history of cruption and destruction, and particular stress on Paricutin the volcano which was born in Mexico in 1943 and in four months grew a cone of 1000 feet -- and Vesuvius, Still threatening. Very special subject -- interestingly presented.
