Learn your way around the fire station with this simple board-book introduction.

This nifty title highlights things typically found at a fire station, such as an alarm bell, fire pole, uniform, fire truck, siren, and more. Each item introduces itself—“I am a fire hose!”—and then provides a little explanation: “I spray blasts of water from the fire hydrant onto the fire.” Varying from this otherwise consistent pattern, the final pages introduce a concept: “Rescue.” A woman and a little girl are shown smiling next to a female firefighter holding a kitten. The text above reads, “Firefighters help people—and animals, too!” The items are well-chosen, and the sentences are simple and straightforward. The layout is attractive and appealing, with colorful borders and ample white space drawing attention to the photographs featuring real firefighters. Several of the pages incorporate textures for added interest. The accompanying DVD, which features firefighters in action rescuing a kitten, reinforces the concepts introduced in the book while adding a bit of dramatic flair.

Firefighter fans will flock to this one. Get ready for repeat reads.
