Little ones learn about trucks.

Tankers, logging trucks, tractors, and more are on full display in this tiny board book. Designed for the youngest of readers, this touch-and-feel book honors trucks in all their glory. Each page features a photo of a different truck against a minimalist background and augmented with tactile elements. The dump truck carries a load of earth, in the form of scratchy sandpaper; the monster truck has a rubbery tire; the flatbed carries bales of hay in the form of a burlap insert. The photos are collaged into cartoon environments that use a crisp four-color palette that little ones will love. Each truck gets an all-lowercase label beneath it and a sound descriptor above. Cement mixers go “Swish! Swish!” while tow trucks go “Clank! Clank!” Little readers learning their ways around flipping pages will find this board book to be most agreeable to their tiny hands. Most textures are stimulating (the fire engine’s chrome accents may be shiny, but they don’t feel like much), the colors are bright, and the subject is straightforwardly conveyed.

An excellent introduction to an evergreen topic
