Gunther High is Kilroy's arch rival--and its baseball coach is a ""sore point"" with Kilroy's because somehow the talented Simmons twins ended up enrolled at Gunther when they should have attended Kilroy. And so with both teams undefeated and headed for a match, with Mac McGoniggle's rash uncle Shamus betting a hundred dollars on the game against the Simmons twins' grandfather, and with Kilroy superstar Chad Watson sporting a bandaged thumb. . . , well, ""it was an edgy but determined Kilroy team that took the schoolbus to Clancy Field."" A spectacular catch by Mac highlights Kilroy's eight-inning lead, which begins to fall apart in the ninth--until observant Mac tips off Kilroy's pitcher to the fact that the twins, whose separate quirks call for different pitches, have switched shirts. Strictly for the one-dimensional sports story fan, but reliably breezy and smooth.
