THE FIRESIDE TREASURY OF MODERN HUMOR by Scott- Ed. Meredith

THE FIRESIDE TREASURY OF MODERN HUMOR

By

Pub Date: Oct. 24th, 1963
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Probably the biggest in this series (some 150 pieces), this collection of the most and the best includes an elite representation of British and American writers, chiefly modern- a few going back (Shaw, Mark Twain, Tarkington, Mencken, F.P.A.) but not before the 20th century. The editor has avoided the obvious anthology pieces, kept each author to a single inclusion (except in one or two cases), and has achieved a variety of humor from nonsense on up. Illustrated with drawings and cartoons, this looks as if it will run close to 1500 pages and it is indeed a colossal collation for a long lifetime of enjoyment.
