I Knock at the Door was the story of ""Johnny Casside"" (Sean O'Casey) in early boyhood (published 1939 -- see page 210 that year). This takes him through adolescence, to his first job, his growing interest in theatre, the issues of the day, and the impact of events on his growing up. Opening with the death of Parnell, there is the mounting hatred of the English, the spread of the Gaelic League, the clash of religious, and Dublin as hell hole and treasure trove for this sensitive youth. Autobiographical sketchbook, in third parson, preeminently Irish, and an emotional and intellectual exploration of the adolescent character. Colloquial -- Irish dialect -- for those who enjoy such material for its beauty and forthrightness.
