KIRKUS REVIEW

arrated by the central character, her account builds to the question of who is the killer and who is the victim. Her amnesia leaves her blank about whether she killed an heiress in cahoots with that girl's lesbian governess or whether she is herself the heiress who somehow foiled a murder plot. The fire in which the murder took place destroyed the features that identified the look-alike girls. The unfolding of a feared memory leads to more violence and a mounting suspense through the psychological exploration of a distinctly queer triangle. Winner of a top French mystery award, its casual perversions are likely to shock here.
