THE AIRMEN by Selden Rodman

Pub Date: April 17th, 1941
Publisher: Random House

A rich and vigorous narrative poem on the theme of flight through the ages by the author of Lawrence, one of the recognized outstanding young American poets. Rodman's poem is an ambitious one, but exceptionally well sustained. Four famous flights are commemorated, -- the boy Icarus, the artist-scientist Leonardo, the Wright Brothers -- and the story of Lauro de Bosis, who in his plane defied the forces of Fascism which were conquering his country. Prose poetry, with some passages of great power. The current awareness of the men of the air as the great heroes of today should give this book a wider market than the usual prose poetry achieves.
