GALLANT WOMEN by Senator Margaret Chase & H. Paul Jeffers Smith

Guess who; Anne Hutchinson, Dolly Madison, Harriet Tubman, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Clara Barton, Elizabeth Blackwell, Susan B. Anthony, Annie Sullivan, Amelia Earhart, Althea Gibson, Frances Perkins, Eleanor Roosevelt. Dolly Madison sacrificed her trunks of clothing to save official papers and the Stuart portrait of Washington when she evacuated the White House; the others' gallantry (not to be confused with gal-lant, notes the introduction confusingly) is quite obvious. So are these sketches; not full enough for biography, not astute enough to reveal character, they are simply tributes from one notable woman to others already much celebrated.
